Our most pressing environmental issue
The greenhouse gases we make in our daily lives are changing our climate.
CO2, the primary greenhouse gas, occurs naturally in our atmosphere. When in balance, it helps to keep the earth’s temperature stable.
But when it’s out of balance, temperatures rise. We all contribute to this imbalance—when we turn on a light, catch a plane, start our car, turn on our computer, put our milk in the fridge, put out the rubbish bin.
Simply put, each of us is responsible.
Plants take in CO2, keep the carbon, and give off the oxygen. But we have changed this natural balance. We are destroying forests throughout the globe at a rate of 8,000 hectares a day. We create large amounts of CO2 in our industrialised society and day-to-day living. Climate change is the result.
One solution is The Canopy Project, which gives us all the chance to offset our daily production of greenhouse gases.
