Our goal is to provide a Canopy for all Australians.
Australian Carbon Biosequestration Initiative Ltd’s (ACBI) originated in 2001 as a working group under the name of the Big Green Umbrella. We are governed by a Board of Directors. Our trustees administer the public fund to which tax-deductible donations are made.
We support the permanent planting of local provenance indigenous trees funded through CO2 sequestration. We seek also to provide benefits for biodiversity, salinity control and farming.
Our not-for-profit status gives us important advantages over commercial organisations. We are not primarily profit driven; we focus on carbon abatement for our clients through the use of trees for multiple benefits. Many businesses and other organisations believe that our not-for-profit status is better aligned to their community service objectives.
In 2006 ACBI took Canopy as its brand name as it reflects our original working title, The Big Green Umbrella and describes our goal for rural Australia to provide a canopy for all.
